Date: Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Who says print is dead? Learn how interactive media and print are coming together to create new, cutting-edge integrated marketing campaigns.

Join us on March 16 as Philip Warbasse of Warbasse Design, demonstrates how 2-dimensional barcodes, commonly referred to as QR Codes, are being used to tie the “real” world (printed pieces from newspaper ads to napkins) to the “virtual” world (the Internet, a text message, a song, a video, etc.). The possibilities are endless and Philip will lead with examples of work in the entertainment and retail industries. He will also give some valuable tips for creating and managing your own 2D barcode integrated campaigns, from business cards to outdoor signage.

After this meeting, you’ll see print as a “facilitator” in integrated marketing campaigns. You’ll also be up-to-speed on the latest in 2D barcode and mobile marketing. So don’t be surprised if, by the end of the meeting, you have a few clever ideas of your own for future interactive print campaigns.

Invite your creative, interactive, marketing and account services co-workers; after all, it’s an integrated world that we now live in! Don’t miss out, as this will be our last program meeting for the season.

At this meeting, experience live examples of QR Codes (like this one) with your smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Palm, etc.). Before the meeting, download a QR reader for your phone. Text apala to 368674 to receive a text message with download links.

If you aren’t, you should be. G7 is the revolutionary new methodology for achieving predictable color consistency throughout the entire production chain, and across a wide range of mediums; from conception and proofing to digital print, offset, grand format and beyond.

A tremendous amount of buzz has built up around G7, but what is it really, and how does it fit into your operation? How can you leverage G7 to get improved color fidelity, faster time-to-market, quicker make-readies and lower costs? We’ll show you how.

The APALA February 16th meeting will cover all touchpoints of the G7 process, from the print buyer and printer to the organization that conducts the G7 Master qualification. We will clear away the confusion and share real-life experiences using G7 to strengthen the bottom line.

Join Glenn Andrews of Color Clarity as he moderates a diverse group of panelists including Chris Milos of Primary Color, Eric Magnusson of Left Dakota, and Darren Murray of TBWAChiatDay.

Whether you’re a print producer, or on the printer/prepress side of the business, don’t miss this meeting – you don’t want to be left behind.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Managing the Total Cost of Project Ownership

Clients and Management are always looking for ways to cut the costs of
doing business, and print is always a target for budget cuts. Meanwhile,
the print production team needs to get the project printed on time,
within budget and often with this pressure to continually cut the costs
related to print.

What the production manager knows is that the cost of the printed
material is actually small compared to the total cost associated with
the item. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) includes many elements that are
not readily calculated, from the cost of design and project management
to the cost of keeping an item in inventory. Often the gap between what
management sees as a “no brainer” has the production team scratching
their heads.

Enter a group of experts who must decipher and apply the correct
formulas to enable the best possible printed outcome. The APALA January
meeting will host a panel of people who deal with this reality every
day, from various perspectives such as paper choices, premedia and
proofing strategies, inventory solutions and of course incorporating the
right production techniques. These people will be sharing from their
experience the tricks of today’s trade in keeping the TCO within reason.

Join Leslie Groene as she moderates panelists including Nan Faessler,
Business Development Director at xpedx. Libby Syth, Manager of Business
Services at the Capital Group Companies and Andrew Lee, Account Executive at
LAgraphico.
